David Nichtern, senior Shambhala Buddhist teacher, is bringing his teachings to Durham for a unique weekend of meditation

The focus of the OM Meditation Teacher Training program is for participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of meditation practice and stages of the Buddhist path. Students will deepen their personal practice and develop the skill sets for presenting meditation and its benefits in a genuinely supportive and clear way.
Anyone with a genuine interest in developing a personal meditation practice or leading meditation in a professional context will benefit from this training. This may include people seeking to broaden their qualifications, such as yoga teachers, yoga students, health professionals, or leaders in any field.
The OM yoga Meditation Teacher Training, the first meditation certification of its kind, is structured in 3 levels. Participants may take any or all of the 3 levels but they must be taken in sequence.
Upon successful completion of the 3 Levels, participants will be certified by OM yoga to teach OM yoga meditation classes, lead group practice sessions and work with individual students.
Who is eligible?
Anyone with a genuine interest in meditation practice who would like to:
1 . deepen their own practice and understanding and/or
2 . move toward helping others with their practice:
Recommended for yoga students, yoga teachers, social workers, therapists, school teachers, leaders in any field, etc. Meditation instruction and practice is a beneficial addition to all other modalities, including one's every day life and relationships.

Level 1 Practices:
• Shamatha (Mindfulness)
Introduction to:
• Vipashyana (Insight/Awareness)
• Maitri (Loving Kindness)
• Contemplative Meditation
Upon completion of all 3 levels, you will:
• deepen your meditation practice
• gain a clear overview of the Buddhist path
• learn and practice a variety of meditation techniques
• clarify your understanding of the fundamentals of meditation practice
• learn and experience the benefits of meditation practice, and
• learn how to teach meditation to groups and individuals

Q: I am a rank beginner at meditation. Can I still take Level 1?
A: Yes. It will also serve as a wonderful, concentrated introduction to the practice and study of Buddhist meditation.
Q: What is the basis of the meditation training being presented here?
A: David is trained as a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and his son Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, He has been practicing and studying within that lineage for 40 years.

David Nichtern is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage founded by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and continued by his son Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
David is Director of Buddhist Studies and Practice at OM yoga Center and leads joint yoga/meditation retreats with Cyndi Lee around the world. They are co-creators of the OM Yoga & Meditation DVD/CD.
David is also a 2-time Grammy nominee and 4-time Emmy award winning composer/guitarist/producer, and creator of the hit song "Midnight at the Oasis". He has produced several records for Krishna Das and is the founder of Dharma Moon and 5 Points Records.
