natalie fixmer-oraiz
Natalie's love of movement and the body began long ago in a small town dance studio owned by her mother. The creative expression and exhilaration of dance carried Natalie through her teenage years and into college. While dance took a backseat to her studies during that time, her mother gave her a yoga book published by the Sivananda Vedanta Centre, and a lifelong journey began. In 2002, after a year of steady yoga and meditation practice, Natalie completed her 200-hour teachers training through the Sivananda Vedanta Centre. Her style reflects this foundation, while also integrating more recent sources of inspiration, including vinyasa flow, Anusara and Jivamukti yoga. She feels eternally grateful for the transformative teachings of yoga—the joyfulness, peace, and grace they have bestowed on her life—as well as for the opportunity to share this with others in the community.
In addition to teaching at Blue Point, Natalie is a doctoral fellow in the Communication Studies Department at UNC-Chapel Hill. She lives in Durham with her wonderful partner, two lovely cats and a very sweet dog.
