Jessica (MA, RYT-200) began practicing yoga in 2010 with the intention of finding a regular exercise regimen to counterbalance her sedentary academic lifestyle. She quickly discovered the combination of yoga and pranayama to be effective in managing her stress and chronic migraine pain. Yoga for her is a time to play, to challenge the physical and emotional limits she puts on herself, and to ground herself within the space of her mat. After years of daily personal practice, Jessica decided to complete her 200-hour teacher training at Blue Point Yoga Center with Sara Doyle in the summer of 2016 as a way to deepen her knowledge of physical alignment, pranayama methods, and meditation, as well as how to extend yogic philosophy to her life beyond her mat. Her goal is to make yoga enjoyable and safe for others who would benefit from the practice, including fellow graduate students and those suffering from migraine symptoms. She is also excited to offer yoga classes for young adults and professionals in the Triangle Jewish community as a way to explore the intersections between yoga and Jewish identity, social justice, and community organization. Jessica is currently working on her Ph.D. in Literature at Duke University.
Jessica Gokhberg instructs the following:
This class is for yoga teachers, teacher trainees and experienced students. We will explore advanced asana and transitions, breath work, and meditation. Mastery of advanced poses is not required. A willingness to have fun and try is necessary!
Flow Level 2
This class is designed for students with some familiarity with yoga. The instructor will offer a variety of modifications to encourage participation of everyone. We do sitting, standing, and inverted postures, and suggest challenging variations for more advanced students, yet fun and non-intimidating options for those who need less of a challenge!
